About
Monique “Mo” Dailey (she/her) is one of the few queer Black women in leadership in the conservation industry. Mo’s personal experiences with the outdoors have been critical to her work, and access to the outdoors in her youth was paramount to her current success. Her goal is to make the outdoors inclusive and accessible to all.
Mo is an experienced leader skilled in program development, community outreach, partnership management, and organizational policy development. Justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) are always at the center of her work. She has demonstrated this commitment by leading various trainings on equity in the outdoors for partner organizations, developing and implementing sessions at conferences, and consulting for organizations like MobilizeGreen.
Mo is currently the Vice President for Conservation Programs at The Wilderness Society where she is a key member of TWS’s Executive team helping to manage the organization, set strategic direction, focus on equitable outcomes, and ensure the organization’s work is aligned for the greatest impact. Her staff is the face and voice of TWS in communities and with national campaigns as they represent the organization on Capitol Hill, with federal agencies, with the scientific community, and with partners, outside counsel, and the courts.
In her previous role, Mo provided strategic leadership as Director of Programs at City Kids Wilderness Project. As a member of the executive team, she set the goals and priorities for the program team and engaged all program staff to ensure this work was of the highest caliber, had the largest impact, and empowered both staff and program participants. In addition to her programmatic work, Mo worked closely with the Executive Director and development team on fundraising efforts including grant writing, and directed full-time program staff hiring and onboarding processes.
Prior to joining City Kids, Mo worked at the Student Conservation Association (SCA) for six years in various roles. Mo began her career with SCA in high school and participated in programs across the country through college. Her work at SCA allowed her the opportunity to lead the same programs that impacted her as a participant. As SCA’s DC Area Programs Manager, she managed year-round conservation service projects, outdoor recreation, environmental education, crew-based activities, and community service projects for 1,000+ youth, young adults, and community members in the Metropolitan DC Area. As the national Director of Member Experience at SCA, Mo oversaw the staff and procedures that improved the connection of all SCA member candidates to the organization through the management of SCA’s Recruiting, Admissions, and Member Services and Support departments.
A Washington, D.C. native, Mo is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer and spent 2 years serving in the Philippines as a Coastal Resource Management volunteer. She is a Leave No Trace Master Educator and holds a BA in English from Mary Baldwin University. Mo currently lives in Washington, D.C. with her partner and their two cats, Nona and Delilah.
